Our mission is to prevent the cruelty of animals through education and outreach on Kodiak Island, including the villages and outlying areas. To facilitate these goals, the Humane Society of Kodiak operates the Kodiak Animal Shelter, a no kill facility for friendly adoptable pets since 1997.  The HSK  ensures that every adopted animal leaving the shelter will be spayed or neutered and that financial assistance for this surgery is available to families in need.

How is your donation spent?

Our #1 ongoing financial responsibility, funded by memberships, donations and  fundraisers, is spaying/neutering and other veterinary care of pets at the Animal Shelter.
Other financial allocations:

  • Spay/Neuter support and emergency surgery in the community
  • Special funds such as The Winston/Checkers Senior Feline Fund and the Senior Canine Fund to help elderly animals at the Animal Shelter and in the community
  • The Senior Companion Program to help seniors in assisted living acquire a companion pet or receive assistance with a current companion pet.
  • Education and outreach
  • General HSK operating costs

Please make checks payable to the Humane Society of Kodiak. If you prefer, you may specifically allocate your donation to any of our programs by indicating your preference on your membership form or on your check memorandum.

The HSK is in need of Baskets and pots for their annual flower basket sale in June 2011. Items can be dropped off at the shelter anytime.

Through memberships, donations, and volunteerism, you can make a difference and better the lives of pets and their families in our community.
